Doctoral study is above all a test of endurance, hard work, research commitment to a subject, and academic excellence. The Department of Sociology offers students interested in doctoral study a stable research infrastructure and provides them with opportunities to obtain faculty and university funding for their research work, to form international contacts, to advance their knowledge by participating in research residencies at institutions abroad (see below), to publish work in the department’s collective monographs, and to take an active part in the department’s research activities. Students are invited and encouraged to participate in the teaching work of the department by leading seminars and elective courses are also welcome (though not required) to take part in teaching compulsory courses in subjects related to their thesis topic.
